South Coast Rock Lobster
Rock lobster are also referred to as Crayfish, they are spiny looking creatures that are an acquired taste and are considered a delicacy as they are quite pricey on the market.
Rock lobsters similar to crabs, belong to the crustacean family.
They are recognised for their horny exoskeleton known as the carapace with a long tail ending with a fan. East Coast rock lobster are brick red with orange spines and blue-green markings on the head.
Rock lobsters grow rather slowly and reach maturity only after about 3 years or when their carapace has reached a length of 50-60mm long. The legal catch size is 65 mm, to ascertain that the species have an opportunity to breed.
A Rock Lobster can self-generate if losing a leg or feeler.
