Pelagic Fish

These fish live in the pelagic zone of ocean that is neither close to the bottom or near the shore. Pelagic fish range include size small forage fish, such as herrings and sardines, to the larger predator fishes, such as bluefin tuna and oceanic sharks.

Large Pelagic: Swordfish

Found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans this extremely popular sports fish and a great meal forms part of the Rial Groups quota holding.

They are also known as Broadbills in some countries, they are quite large and have round thickish bodies. Females being the more dominant species are larger than the males.

The Pacific swordfish species grow to superior sizes than that of the northwest Atlantic and Mediterranean.

Before long-line fishing Swordfish were caught via harpoon in small quantities.

In some areas around the world they are still fished with traditional wooden boats called Feluccas, not as income generating but rather as food for the family.
